Benefits

If you used your writing skills in your last job and for some reason weren’t able to take any of your projects/materials with you when you left, this is a great way to demonstrate on a public stage that you can write.  When a potential employer asks to see writing samples, you can direct them to your blog post(s).  It also shows what you’ve been doing during your ‘time off’.

During the three months I spent networking leading up to the start of this blog, I met a lot of people who needed to talk about their situation with someone, anyone.  You can only talk to family and friends so long before you need to share your experiences with someone who is going through the same thing you are.  Guest blogging allows you to begin that dialogue.

Did you attend a networking event that was out-of-this-world and want to share it with others so they can benefit from attending the next meeting?  Write a post and share with us the knowledge you gained and when the next meeting is so I can update the networking calendar.

The readership of this blog is extremely diverse; by diverse, I mean, not just the unemployed are tuning in.  I’ve had face-to-face conversations, email discussions and comments posted by Iowa Workforce Development, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, IowaWorks, recruiters, headhunters, placement agencies, career coaches and a plethora of others who are interested in what is being discussed in this community.  If you have an opinion about something or have an idea of how things can be done differently, say it in a blog post.

How to Guest Blog

Email a title, intro/bio, draft post, a link to your online profile (LinkedIn if you have one) and a professional headshot to suzanne_hull@hotmail.com.  Let me know if you have a specific post date in mind and we’ll go from there.
